CTO Aneesh Chopra’s Push for Simple Health IT Standards

AneeshAneesh Chopra, the federal government’s chief technology officer, urges that health IT standards need to be simple and easy to understand. He believes that with simple standards, there can be evolution as well. In a recent article NextGov.com reported that Chopra was in a meeting with the Health IT Standards Committee and stated, “The department should not let the perfect be the enemy of the good enough in its effort to meet the goal.”

The Department of Health and Human Services will be working on developing standards that will oversee the exchange between hospitals and clinicians. Chopra stated that the current benchmarks on the web should help direct the exchange of health information. According to NextGov.com, Vinton Cerf, the VP and chief Internet evangelist for Google, stated, “simplicity is our friend here, as has been evidenced in the Internet.”
