Government 2.0: Transparency is Not a Cakewalk

Government 2.0 has been a hot topic lately. The Obama administration has had a big push for open government and transparency. However, according to Beth Noveck, deputy CTO of the federal government, transparency will not come so easily. She spoke at a Web 2.0 Expo last week in New York and she explained that the two main concerns right now are cost and privacy.aneeshchopra_technologysecy

Additionally, according to InformationWeek, Noveck said, “Government transparency must go beyond posting a blog here and a Wiki there and calling the result transparency.”

She urges that the government needs to get more public input sooner than later. Federal CTO Aneesh Chopra is developing an Open Government Directive that will be released in the near future. Iit will serve to guide federal agencies better and help them become more transparent.
