The U.S. Military is seeing growing popularity with new Web 2.0 tool “milBook.” This new secure, behind-the-firewall, professional networking site for the military has already attracted 20,000 users. “MilBook” has quickly become a widely accepted tool by the Department of Defense. It was launched back in October 2009.
One of the main reasons Department of Defense employees are embracing this new networking tool is because now they have an option for a safe mode of communication between each other. They can share ideas and comment in discussion groups without being worried about sharing private information.
According to a PEO Press Release, Todd Miller, an Army contractor, said, “These technologies help those working on similar projects across ‘DoD’ to connect, share information, incubate new ideas, and help build the ‘DoDs’ body of knowledge and expertise, while generating organizational learning.”
The tool, “milBook” also incorporates a wiki. Additionally, it includes a blog portion that allows access to a live chat area, and a place for sharing news and photos in real-time.
