FCC Launches New Task Force

julius-genachowski4The FCC is working on the nation’s spectrum agenda. Today, FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski announced the launch of a Spectrum Task Force. Ruth Milkman, the current Chief of the Wireless Telecommunications Bureau, as well as Julius Knapp, the current Chief of the Office of Engineering Technology, will be co-chairing the task force.

In his announcement, Genachowski said, “To lead the world in mobile, the FCC must ensure that our nation’s spectrum is being put to its highest and best use.”

There is a growing demand and finite amount of spectrum, which includes the entire range of electromagnetic radio frequencies that is used in the transmission of sound, data, and video.

“Maximizing this essential 21st century resource will create jobs, drive economic growth, and encourage innovation and investment. The FCC’s National Broadband Plan lays out a comprehensive roadmap for promoting greater spectrum efficiency and flexibility, and ensuring sufficient spectrum for broadband. The Spectrum Task Force will keep us on this charted course.”

This new task force will be in charge fulfilling the spectrum suggestions set out in the National Broadband Plan.
