candlelight-1024x681The Department of Justice is observing the annual National Crime Victims’ Rights Week this week. From April 18, 2010 to April 24, 2010, The Department of Justice, along with other state and local agencies, as well as the public and victim services providers, will observe this week in order to bring attention to crime victims and their needs.

Attorney General Eric Holder hosted two different events last week to launch National Crime Victims’ Rights Week. First, there was a Candlelight Observance on April 15, 2010. Following this, there was an awards ceremony on April 16, 2010 to recognize individuals and organizations that have done work to aid crime victims.

President Obama says, “Millions of Americans fall prey to criminal behavior every year, and still more suffer the physical, emotional, and psychological pain of past offenses…During National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, we affirm our support for victim sand survivors of crime, and we recommit to strengthening the Federal, State, and local partnerships that are reducing criminal activity. Together, we will build a safer, more secure America.”
