John J. Garing, director of strategic planning and information at Defense Information Systems Agency, announced April 30 his plans to retire from the agency, according to Washington Technology.

Garing made the announcement during an internal staff meeting; however, further details have not been released. Washington Technology reports that according to a DISA spokesperson, Garing had planned to attend the DISA’s annual Customer Conference this week and then go on leave. However, massive rainfalls and flooding in Nashville, Tenn., where the conference was to be held, forced organizers to cancel the event.

Before his position as DISA’s chief information officer, Garing served as director of the Computing Systems Directorate, where he managed information processing and IT services provided by DISA’s Defense Enterprise Computing Centers. He was also previously in charge of developing and managing the business aspects of the information processing and IT services provided by the DECCs and DECC detachments.

Garing retired from the Air Force in 1989, and served with the White House Communications Agency in the International Military Staff of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, and as division chief and director at Headquarters Air Force.

No details on who will replace him have been released.
