The complete details of the reassignment remain unknown, but is effective immediately. Miles was director of the activity since June 2008, and Marilee Fitzgerald has been announced as her replacement.

Virginia S. Penrod, the acting deputy undersecretary of defense for military community and family policy, explained the new leadership is part of the department’s structural organization and its effectiveness to fully support the mission.

She commented on the decision made by Clifford L. Stanley, undersecretary of defense for personnel and readiness. She said, “He’s made different moves, and I think he will continue to do that as he looks at where’s the right fit for the organization.”

Penrod expressed her confidence in the new leadership of the education activity, calling her an “excellent choice.”

The Department of Defense Education Activity is a civilian agency that serves the children of military service members and DoD civilian employees throughout the world.
