The Department of Homeland Security launched a new 24-hour watch and warning center focused on combating the increasingly 24/7 cybersecurity threat.

DHS Deputy Assistant Secretary Michael Brown joined White House Cybersecurity Coordinator Howard Schmidt and representatives of the Multi-State Information Sharing and Analysis Center on Nov. 18 to launch the MS-ISAC Cyber Security Operations Center in New York.

Officials touted the new operations center as the focal point of cyber threat prevention for state and local governments. The center will also monitor networks in real time and broadcast early cyber threat warnings, according to GovInfoSecurity.

Last week, DHS signed an agreement with the Information Technology Information Sharing and Analysis Center to embed a full-time analyst and liaison to DHS at the NCCIC, according to a report on cyber news and analysis website The New New Internet. The IT-ISAC consists private sector IT professionals to work on risk-mitigation strategies. Under an agreement with DHS, the MS-ISAC will also have a permanent representative at the NCCIC
