While cloud computing has been touted as the next big thing, Federal News Radio reports the latest tech trend is also gathering its share of naysayers.
Last week, the General Services Administration unveiled new security requirements designed to smooth the transition as the feds increasingly begin taking to the clouds.
The Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program is currently seeking comments, before the first phase becomes operational, likely early next year, according to Federal News Radio. FedRAMP will continuously monitor cloud platforms, provide security authorizations and reduce redundancies.
Some of those expressing concern, such as associate Internal Revenue Service Chief Information Officer for Cybersecurity David Stender, are focused on the security aspects of the cloud.
Stender told Federal News Radio the IRS had already taken the plunge into becoming a cloud-services provider, but that questions about security, especially for his agency, remain paramount.
“Not a single cloud service provider has been able†to show that information can be kept secure throughout every step of the process, he said.
GSA will continue to gather comments on its cloud-security requirements, including process templates, guides and common security requirements. The deadline is Dec. 2.
