Beth Noveck, deputy chief technology officer and director of the Open Government Initiative will follow her colleague Andrew McLaughlin out the door of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy.

Noveck, the author of Wiki Government, a tome on social media and democracy, will return to teaching law at New York Law School, according to various media reports.

OSTP spokesman Phil Larson praised Noveck’s work to foster “greater collaboration and public participation,” in an emailed statement, Federal News Radio reported.

“She has helped to develop significant advancements in the administration’s efforts to utilize technology to break down the barriers between the American public and their government,” he added.

Noveck garnered praise for her leadership of the Open Government initiative, where she worked to leverage technology to make government agencies more transparent.

Surveying the Open Gov landscape upon news of Noveck’s departure, a report on InformationWeek says the initiatives have been the “cornerstone” of the administration’s tech strategy and have already changed agency culture. “All  agencies now have an open government plan outlining how they will support the initiative,” per the InformationWeek report.

Noveck’s fellow deputy CTO, McLaughlin, who worked on the administration’s Internet policy, announced he was leaving his post late last month to launch two start-up companies.

  1. Beth Noveck teaches at New York Law School, not New York University. (And yes, there is a difference.)
