The Defense Department is welcoming its civilian employees and private-sector IT professionals to join its Information Technology Exchange Program, which provides defense IT programs and initiatives as well as many other opportunities.

This is all in an effort for DoD to share best practices and help private-sector employees gain  better understanding of IT practices. The program can also be used to enhance IT/cybersecurity competencies and technical skills of DoD and private-sector professionals.

Some of the other opportunities employees will gain through the program include IT project management, network services, IT consolidation, data management and enterprise architecture. Eligibility of DoD and private sector employees who participate in the program must work in the IT field at the GS-11 level above or equivalent.

DoD employees continue to receive pay while participating in the program while private-sector employees are paid by their employer.
