A recent vote on the budget of the Justice Department’s technology programs aims to cut funding by $45.9 million as compared to last year’s budget. The House Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies’ vote would give the department less than the president requested.

The favored $72.34 billion fiscal Justice budget the subcommittee voted for is $61.89 million below the president’s request. The FBI, on the other hand ,will see an $18.63 million increase in its salaries and expenses account, which will fund 42 positions for investigative improvement and protection of infrastructure related to malicious cyber intrusions.

The FBI would also be given almost $20 million in funding 23 total positions for aggregated investigative data management system and for establishing a domestic communications assistance center.

Departments under the umbrella of the Justice Information Sharing Technology budget that would be affected by the cuts include the Law Enforcement Sharing Program, the Unified Financial Management System, the DOJ’s cybersecurity program and the Joint Automated Booking System.
