The Obama Adminstration launched its promised panel of mostly experienced inspectors general Thursday as part of its Campaign to Cut Waste.

The Government Accountability and Transparency Board was established June 13 in an executive order. The board held its first meeting Thursday morning, a little over a month since Obama issued the order.

“With our nation’s top watchdogs at the helm, we will deliver the kind of transparency and accountability for federal spending that the public deserves and expects,” Vice President Joe Biden said.

The board will make recommendations based on the use of technologies to crack down on fraud and making data more reliable and accessible to citizens.

Earl Devaney, chairman of the Recovery Accountability and Transparency Board, will serve as chairman of the new White House panel. Devaney served as Inspector General for the Interior Department under Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush.
