After rejecting a House measure to fund the government past Friday, the end of the fiscal year, the Senate will vote Monday night on a bill of its own.

Failure to pass a spending bill by Thursday could result in a government shutdown.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has scheduled a 5:30 p.m. Monday vote on a spending bill backed by most Senate Democrats.

The Senate’s proposed legislation includes disaster aid funding without offsetting cuts in other areas of the federal budget.

The Senate voted 59-36 Friday to reject the House measure that allocated $3.7 billion for the Federal Emergency Management Agency. GOP leaders in the House included cuts to an energy program in the bill, raising objections from House Democrats.

FEMA said it has $175 million left in disaster aid and could run out by Tuesday or Wednesday.
