Americans living and traveling abroad need to remain vigilant around the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, the State Department said Friday.

AFP reports the department has not identified any specific threats about possible attacks.

However, the alert says al-Qaida and its affiliates have demonstrated both intent and capability in carrying out attacks against the U.S.

“We remind our federal, state, local partners, and the public to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity to local law enforcement authorities,” Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said in a statement Friday.

The travel alert expires on Jan. 2, 2012.
