OPM Tells Employees to Use Leave Time or Lose It

1 min read

The Office of Personnel Management notified federal employees Wednesday they have until Nov. 19 to schedule their annual leave or risk losing leave time.

Angela Bailey, OPM associate director of employee services, told agency human resources staff in a memo 2011 is an “unusual year” because the end of the federal government’s leave year and the calendar year coincide on Dec. 31.

For workers covered under the Civil Service Retirement System and CSRS Offset who are planning to retire between Jan. 1 and Jan. 3, 2012, they will not receive a lump-sum payment for unused leave if they do not schedule excess vacation prior to Dec. 31.
