The Office of Personnel Management said it’s working non-stop to accommodate job seekers on the updated USAJobs.gov site after it was overloaded with high volume traffic and left at a standstill for some users.
In fact, OPM has been working to quickly negotiate contracts for more server capacity hoping that the hardware will be in place by early next week at the latest, OPM Director John Berry told agency leaders and federal union representatives Wednesday at the Federal Labor-Management Council meeting in Washington.
When the latest version was launched, about eight days ago, Berry had hoped it would open the floodgate for competition in taking advantage of open technology so that contractors and agencies can more easily work with the site.
Federal News Radio reports the website hosted some 2.5 million users per day, far exceeding expectations according to Berry.
OPM is currently limiting capacity until the site is able to handle the full load. People using the site during busy times may get messages asking to try again later.
While the site lockout is a huge concern, OPM is also paying heed to other complaints posted to the agency’s Facebook and Twitter pages. Some users said they had to change both their login and password. Berry indicated that they are working to fix this, and other issues, out.
One feature that seems to be working well is users are able to save documents online to apply to multiple jobs without filling repeat forms out.
