According to TheHill.com, the House will take up the the Wireless Tax Fairness Act of 2011.
The bill places a five-year moratorium on new taxes on mobile phones and other wireless devices. The legislation has 240 sponsors and easily went through the House Judiciary Committee in July.
The Hill reports the House would freeze any new state or local taxes on wireless items, with a report in March revealing that the average wireless customer pays 16.3 percent in taxes.
Reps. Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.) and Trent Franks (R-Ariz.) introduced the legislation.
“By freezing wireless taxes and fees, we hope to spur additional consumer driven development in wireless broadband and to increase access to advanced wireless network,” Lofgren said.
