The Office of Personnel Management will be bringing in a new chief technology officer to handle the technical problems of USAJobs, according to a report from Federal News Radio.During a recent House Oversight and Government Reform hearing, OPM Director John Berry said the new CTO will enhance and centralize the agency’s information technology operations.
The agency has attempted to fix the issues and Berry told lawmakers in the hearing they were resolved. Asked a question about the website’s problems and its financial costs to taxpayers, Berry responded by saying protection of resumes on the site is the agency’s most important priority.
Rep. Stephen Lynch (D-Mass.) defended OPM and its attempt to handle its technical issues and said he has more patience than his colleagues in Congress but not much more.
With agencies offering buyouts and early retirement of federal employees, he added he doesn’t think OPM has the resources to get a hold backlog of those retirement applications, let alone the USAJobs website.
Berry admitted the agency has fallen behind on those applications but said OPM has hired 35 employees to handle it.
