2 mins read

Executive Mosaic, the parent company of ExecutiveGov and a stable of online news properties geared toward the government contracting industry, has launched the most in-depth issue yet of our quarterly print magazine GovConExec.

In our winter 2011 issue, we take readers into the new C4ISR for our cover story. C4ISR covers more than just the battlefield, as it offers capabilities for environmental management and responses to humanitarian crises.

Our annual “Top People to Watch” section covers 15 people in the private and public sectors that significantly impact the GovCon sector. Three key federal officials we highlighted help set the federal contracting landscape.

Defense Secretary Leon Panetta is tasked with guiding the Pentagon through an uncertain future regarding its budget. CIA Director David Petraeus, who took the helm in December, is tasked with convincing the CIA to share data with other agencies in the intelligence community. Federal Chief Information Officer Steven VanRoekel‘s top priorities for the coming year include the government’s transition to cloud computing and ever-increasing focus on cybersecurity.

In our “INSIGHT” section, retired Air Force Gen. Charles Wald covers the Pentagon’s new push for biofuels as it seeks to change how it uses energy. Wald, who now leads Deloitte’s Defense Department practice, says both contractors and the military will benefit from the biofuel shift.

In August, the Navy and the departments of Agriculture and Energy announced a three-year partnership where they will invest $510 million ($170 million each) in partnership with the private sector to produce drop-in biofuels. The new fuels can be combined with existing fuels to power vehicles used by the military and in the commercial sector.

Our “CEO Profile” section highlights Duane Andrews, who has lead QinetiQ North America for nearly four years. Mark Gerencser, executive vice president at Booz Allen Hamilton, gives his views on rebuilding the nation’s critical infrastructure.

The “FedTech Soundoff” gives views directly from industry experts on biometrics, cloud computing and cybersecurity. Also see our recap of executive moves, large contract awards and other significant GovCon news during the quarter.
