The House of Representatives has passed legislation which sets a cap on the number of parking spaces at the Mark Center property in Alexandria.
In addition to the cap, the U.S. Army will also have to complete a new traffic study mandated by the Army Inspector General, which needs to include a revised transportation management plan.
Both provisions were included in the FYâ12 Omnibus Appropriations Bill, passed on Dec. 16.
If the Defense Department can demonstrate for 90 consecutive days that traffic congestion in the area hasn’t reached failing levels, the cap could potentially be lifted.
âItâll be two-to-four years before the I-395 ramp project is completed, and this parking cap should compel the Army to more aggressively work to promote telework, staggered schedules and shuttles to help alleviate the congestion thatâs already obvious to anyone who lives or travels in this region,â said Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.) in a release.
