NIST’s Molnar Sees New Office as Avenue for Tech Partnership

1 min read

The National Institute of Standards and Technology is to establish a National Program Office for the Advanced Manufacturing Partnership, according to a recent announcement.

AMP was initiated by the White House in June, 2011, as a way to identify and develop “high-quality” manufacturing jobs and enhance global competitiveness.

According to AMP, the partnership strives to achieve this goal through the collaboration of industry, academia and the federal government.

All federal agencies involved in U.S. manufacturing are expected to participate in the AMP National Program Office, with the intent of improving private-sector partnerships.

The partnership is led by Dow Chemical Company President, Chairman, and CEO Andrew Liveris, and MIT President Susan Hockfield.

With more than 25 years in advanced manufacturing, Mike Molnar, chief manufacturing officer at NIST, has been selected to lead the office.

“By moving ahead today with formation of the National Program Office, we will be ready to act on the upcoming AMP recommendations and vision for a new era of technology partnerships,” said Molnar.
