Omnibus Bill Conference Today on Hill, Goal is Compromise

A House-Senate conference on the year-end omnibus spending package is convening today, according The Hill newspaper.

Democratic and Republican lawmakers are meeting to discuss and come to a compromise on a piece the funding bill, which primarily covers military construction and the Department of Veterans Affairs. It could turn into a $900 billion spending package according to C-SPAN.

Senators attending the conference include Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman Daniel Inouye (D-Hawaii) and Democratic Sens. Tim Johnson (D-S.D.), Mary Landrieu (D-La.) and Thad Cochran (R-Miss.). The Republicans will be represented by Sens. Mark Kirk (R-Ill.), Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Texas), Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska).

House Republicans attending the conference include Appropriations Committee Chairman Hal Rogers (R-Ky.) and Reps. Bill Young (R-Fla.) and Jerry Lewis (R-Calif.). Democrats attending include Reps. Norm Dicks (D-Wash.), Peter Visclosky (D-Ind.), Nita Lowey (D-N.Y.) and Jose Serrano (D-N.Y.).
