Students Rank Agencies High on ‘Ideal Employer’ Survey

In a recent survey of nearly 62,000 undergraduates at 362 colleges, students put government agencies in the ranks for top 100 ideal places to work.

The survey, conducted by Universum, polled students from Dec. 2010 to March 2011 and yielded the Top 100 Ideal Employer Rankings in categories including business, engineering, information technology, natural sciences and humanities/liberal arts.

The FBI made the top 20 in each category, while NASA was the top agency listed in the the engineering category. The CIA, Environmental Protecion Agency, National Security Agency, and the departments of Energy, State and Treasury also made the top 20 in varying categories.

While government agencies had 13 out of 100 in the engineering category, nine of 100 for business and 14 of 100 for natural science jobs, they had 16 of the top 100 jobs in the IT category, with NASA ranked 10th.

Additional agencies making the IT list were the Air Force, FBI, CIA, and the departments of Defense, Energy, Treasury and Veterans Affairs.
