The White House released the FedRAMP cloud computing strategy Thursday.

It is the first step in the process, which Federal Chief Information Officer Steven VanRoekel indicated will evolve as the FedRAMP process moves forward.

Jennifer Kerber, vice president of homeland security at TechAmerica, also pointed to the fact that this is a first step in an interview with Federal News Radio.

If the project is successful, it has the ability to streamline the certification and accreditation process in order to create a more uniform and unified approach to the cloud, she said.

Since both agencies and the private industry suffer major costs when the process is repeated over and over again, Kerber hopes that the program, if it works properly, will allow cost-efficient measures.

Kerber also indicated that for the program’s success, the private and public should work together, since the program presents mutual beneficial perks in her mind.
