New HUD Website Features Sustainable Housing Best Practices

The Department of Housing and Urban Development has a new online resource providing information on local and regional strategies for sustainable housing.

HUD’s Sustainable Communities Resource Center features best practices from sustainable communities in California.

HUD also includes links to information on economic competitiveness, green building and regional planning.

HUD posts links to news stories on sustainability and allows visitors to subscribe to news alerts.

HUD says a sustainable community has a vibrant local economy, housing and transportation choices close to jobs and energy independence.

According to HUD, sustainable communities also takes steps to protect air and water sources.

HUD is requesting $250 million for its fiscal 2013 budget to fund measures for creating sustainable communities.

The Government Accountability Office has found that the U.S. Air Force intends to start fielding in fiscal 2020 new Combat Rescue Helicopters to replace aging HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopters that have recorded the most flight time when it comes to staff recovery missions. GAO said in a report published Thursday the service will initially deploy the new helicopters to the active component six years ahead of the reserve component and to the Air National Guard by 2027.
