The Federal Reserve System is now using Twitter as part of its efforts to be more transparent, the Atlantic Wire reports.

The Fed’s Twitter account features news releases, balance sheets and termination of enforcement actions.

The organization’s social media page, launched a week ago, will also feature videos of Chairman Ben Bernanke’s speeches, Politico reports.

Bernanke is hosting a series of of online lectures about the origin and mission of central banks, the financial crisis in 2007 and the financial organizations response.

Bernanke told Politico that the media strategy and outreach approach is to help people understand the purpose of the Federal Reserve and their efforts.

The White House expanded its social media strategy in January when it launched a Google Plus page and held a hangout with President Obama and selected citizens.
