President Barack Obama appointed Deputy Federal Aviation Administration Administrator Michael Huerta to a full-five year term in the agency’s top post, the White House announced Tuesday.Huerta has served as the acting administrator since December 2011, succeeding Randy Babbitt following his resignation.
Huerta will head the agency amidst its efforts to integrate unmanned aerial vehicles into public airspace by Sept. 30, 2015.
President Obama will send Huerta’s nomination as well as four other appointments made Tuesday to the Senate for approval.
Huerta was previously chief of staff of the Department of Transportation and associate deputy secretary in the department’s intermodalism office.
He was previously group president of Affiliated Computer Services Inc.‘s transportation solutions group.
Huerta also spent time as the managing director of transportation communication for the local organizing committee for the 2002 Winter Olympics, held in Salt Lake City.
He was also commissioner of New York City’s Department of Ports and executive director at the Port of San Francisco.
