Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency Director Regina Dugan is leaving her post after more than two years to take a position with Google, Wired reported.
Eric Mazzacone, a DARPA spokesperson, told Wired Dugan will attain a senior executive position with the Internet company within the next few weeks.
DARPA Deputy Director Ken Gabriel will serve as acting director, Wired reported.
Dugan joined DARPA in July 2009 as the first women to hold the position of director.
She previously served as a program manager with the agency from 1996 to 2000, specializing in counterterrorism and defense against explosive threats.
In November, Dugan said the agency planned to increase its cybersecurity research spending by 50 percent over the next five years.
