The Defense Department plans to spend $770 billion on its aircraft acquisition, maintenance and operation programs between fiscal years 2013 and 2022, Aviation Week reports.

The Pentagon sent its 30-year aviation plan to Congress earlier this month and reported that yearly aircraft spending for all military branches will peak at $80 billion in 2022.

The military’s major planned investments include unmanned aircraft, with plans to increase the unmanned fleet by 45 percent to include 645 aircraft by 2022.

The Air Force plans to buy enhanced sensors for its General Atomics MQ-1 Predators with MQ-9 Reapers and plans to have 65 orbits by the end of fiscal 2014, according to the report.

The Pentagon also plans to invest in air mobility and electronic-warfare aircraft through buying fifth-generation fighters and conducting long-range strike modernization.

The Navy does not plan to increase its electronic-warfare fleet but will instead maintain its 114 Boeing Co.-built EA-18G Growlers.

The Air Force is set to purchase 83 Boeing KC-46A aerial refueling tanks by 2022 and also expects to complete the purchase of 179 aircraft in the following seven years.
