The Commerce Department and the Environmental Protection Agency launched an effort Monday as part of an initiative to expand the U.S. environmental industry’s global presence.

EPA recently held a Technology Market Summit, where Administrator Lisa Jackson and Commerce Secretary John Bryson detailed their agencies’ environmental technology and job creation efforts.

The agencies created a web-based portal for industry to reference in order to promote U.S. environmental technology products and services in the global marketplace.

Export.gov will host the portal, which will include information about government support activities such as market research, scientific analysis, financial programs and regulatory information.

Both EPA and Commerce expect to partner with trade associations to focus on U.S. company growth opportunities and give organizations access to market details.

Bryson said in the news release the initiative is in response to President Obama’s National Export Initiative launched two years ago to promote U.S. product exports.

According to the announcement, the Environmental Technologies Export Initiative builds on Obama’s export initiatives, aiming to double U.S. exports by the end of 2014 and create jobs.

Jackson hopes the portal will help ease U.S.’ companies’ entrance and success within the global marketplace and encourage innovation onshore.
