President Obama has nominated Allison Macfarlane, a George Mason University professor, to serve on the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

According to a May 24 White House announcement, she will be designated as chair if confirmed by the Senate and succeed outgoing chair Gregory Jaczko, who announced his resignation earlier in the week.

She has been an associate professor of environmental science and policy at GMU since 2006 and served as a member of the Blue Ribbon Commission on America’s Nuclear Future from March 2010 to January 2012.

From 2004 to 2006 and from 2000 to 2003, she worked as a research associate at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

She was an associate professor at Georgia Tech between both stints at MIT.
