Gen. Norton Schwartz

Gen. Norton Schwartz, the Air Force’s chief of staff, recently gave his view on maintaining balance as the branch prepares for fiscal year 2013, according to an Air Force release.

The general spoke at the Air Force Association’s monthly breakfast on Monday in front of civilian and industry leaders.

Schwartz highlighted readiness, modernization and force structure as the three areas where the Air Force must achieve a balance.

That formula includes finding the right combination of active duty, Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve airmen, he said.

Leaders in all three components worked together on the branch’s fiscal 2013 budget request.

Laying out this plan resolves risks of unmanageable deployment rates of the three components, according to Schwartz.
