1 min read

The Department of Homeland Security’s advisory council will launch a new effort focusing on developing the cyber workforce, Secretary Janet Napolitano announced Wednesday.

She met with industry and small business representatives at a White House event June 6.

DHS said she mentioned the department’s collaboration with universities and private sector businesses in training a new generation of cyber professionals that can help fight constantly changing cyber threats.

Jeff Moss and Alan Paller will co-manage the new task force, which will examine strategies that could include escalation of DHS participation with cyber competitions and university programs; strengthening public- private partnerships; and engaging with interagency partners to assemble an agile cyber workforce throughout the federal government.

DHS’ responsibilities include assisting owners and operators of critical infrastructure in defending their networks, she said.
