Defense Secretary Leon Panetta is in New Delhi, India for a two-day visit to discuss the country’s role in transferring technology and co-producing military equipment, reports Marcus Weisgerber for Defense News.

Panetta arrived in India on Tuesday for his first visit as defense secretary and his visit to India is part of a nine-day Asia trip, according to Weisgerber.

India has acquired $8 billion worth of U.S. military equipment within the past decade, Weisgerber reported.

He will meet with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Defense Minister A. K. Antony, and national security adviser Shivshankar Menon to discuss their bilateral defense trade relationship and military equipment modernization.

The U.S. is now testing the production of C-130 cargo plane spare parts in New Delhi.
