The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency has named former National Institute of Standards and Technology head Arati Prabhakar as its new director, according to an agency memo obtained by FedScoop.

Prior to her appointment, Prabhakar served as a partner at US Venture Partners, an early stage venture capital firm located in Silicon Valley, Ca.

She previously worked at NIST from 1993 to 1997 and served as its first female head.

Prabhakar will assume her new office July 30.

DARPA’s appointment comes after former director Regina Dugan left DARPA earlier this year for an executive position at Google.
