The Office of Management and Budget wants agencies to calculate investments in their cloud computing programs when submitting their fiscal 2014 budget plans, AOL Government reports.OMB said agencies should include those calculations in fiscal 2014 budget drafts, Jeff Erlichman reports.
OMB spokeswoman Moira Mack told AOL the government believes it can save money by moving to shared systems where agencies only pay for resources they use.
In its message to agencies, OMB added an exhibit component in budget submissions that require agencies to detail how they achieved a 10 percent reduction in IT spending.
Budget drafts should also include how the savings were re-invested.
According to Erlichman, agencies are being asked to cut spending in duplicative IT commodities, IT infrastructure, enterprise IT systems, business systems, underperforming projects and lower-priority investments.
