Former D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty has joined a Silicon Valley-based venture fund as a special adviser as the firm pursues investments in online education and city-level software services, the Washington Post reports.

According to Cecelia King‘s report, Fenty’s work could help entrepreneurs create apps for finding local health clinics and connecting medical records.

Margit Wennmachers, a partner at Andreessen Horowitz,  told the Post Fenty will advise the firm and its entrepreneurs on how to navigate the state, local and federal government.

Andreessen Horowitz has previously backed Facebook, Groupon and Skype, according to the Post.

Former National Economic Adviser Lawrence Summers joined the firm last year as a part-time adviser on global economic issues.
