GAO Reports Many Programs that Provide Assistance to Start-ups Overlap

The Government Accountability Office has found that many government programs aimed at assisting startup businesses overlap, Federal Times reports.

In a report published August 23, GAO said that numerous programs from the Small Business administration, Commerce Department, Housing and Urban Development, and Agriculture department overlap in the technical and financial assistance efforts.

According to GAO, 24 technical assistance programs and 16 financial programs from the 52 programs are similar.

GAO added that many government programs for entrepreneurs have similar targets, which are businesses in rural and economically distressed areas.

That makes it so that business owners can potentially utilize a number of these programs and due to a lack of oversight, no one in government is aware.
