The General Services Administration has appointed Dorothy Robyn commissioner of the Public Buildings Service, the Washington Post reports.
Robyn, formerly deputy defense under secretary for installations and environment, will be responsible for overseeing the federal government’s real estate portfolio.
GSA acting Administrator Dan Tangherlini said in a memo obtained by reporter Jonathan O’Connell that Robyn’s appointment would abolish the Public Buildings Service’s board of directors.
Tangherlini said he wanted to eliminate the board to clearly establish Robyn’s authority and responsibility, O’Connell reports.
Robyn, Tangherlini’s first hire since taking office in April, was previously in charge of the Pentagon’s most previous round of base closures and realignments.
O’Connell reports that round included the relocation of Walter Reed Army Medical Center operations, expansion of the Mark Center in Alexandria, Va. and a transformation of Fort Meade, Md., home to the National Security Agency and U.S. Cyber Command.
