Director of National Intelligence James Clapper said that the shared cloud-computing environment for the intelligence community may go live by March 2013, Federal News Radio reports.
According to Jared Serbu’s report, Clapper told a GEOINT Symposium audience the entire IC could be moved into the Intelligence Community Information Technology Enterprise cloud by 2018.
The goal of the cloud transition is to give the IC an enterprise model for information technology, he said, according to the report.
Clapper also announced at the Orlando, Fla.-based conference that the Defense Intelligence Agency and National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency are also working on an IC-wide desktop environment.
Serbu reports the desktop environment is expected to have 2,000 users by March 2013 and 60,000 users by March 2014.
NGA Director Letitia Long said the IC is working on a compensation model for handling software licensing agreements, adding the agency plans to host geospatial data from other agencies, according to the report.
