George Allen: Emphasize ‘Best Value’ Defense Contracts, Shorten Bid Protest Process

Former Virginia Governor and candidate for U.S. Senate George Allen wants to emphasize the need to award best value deals instead of “low-price technically acceptable” proposals, GovExec reports.

“If you needed heart surgery would you go to the one who was giving you the lowest price,” Allen said to illustrate his argument.

Allen spoke at a round table of defense contractors and said he wanted to shorten the bid protest process from 100 days to 60 days for defense contractors.

The shorter protest process would help small businesses that lose their contracts because they outgrow their “small” label.

“These sorts of reforms, as far as procurement, would get our government more efficient, more effective and with greater accountability,” Allen said.

GovExec also said that Allen will “definitely” vote against another round of the base closure and realignment commission process.
