Ben Rhodes told PBS’ “Frontline” program the White House intends to move from large-scale deployments to focused missions against terrorist groups, according to Byron Tau’s story.
In the interview with Jim Gilmore, Rhdoes said the administration’s drone program is a war against a specific group of people, citing Al Qaeda and its affiliates as the target.
Rhodes also claimed drones are better for both national security and troop security, adding he believes drone use results in fewer civilian casualties, according to Tau’s story.
Other countries will someday have drone capabilities and the U.S. will have to grapple with that, Rhodes told Gilmore.
Late last month, Iran claimed to have developed a drone that could carry bombs and missiles for up to 1,240 miles.
