The U.S. Army is building a new joint information sharing environment for cyber operations, DoDLive reports.

According to the blog post, Army officials discussed the new program and other cyber-related topics during a panel discussion at the Association of the United States Army’s annual meeting.

Lt. Gen. Susan Lawrence, the branch’s chief information officer, said the new program is for soldiers to deploy into theater on short notice, using installations as docking stations and offers users a single network with centralized management and decentralized execution.

“We have got to able to, in any type of combat or spectrum of operations, have technology overmatch against any enemy, and getting to this environment will allow us to do that,” Lawrence said.

Lt. Gen. Richard Formica said cyberspace and space are separate domains but are linked, as space delivers cyber signals and cyberspace supports payloads of systems operating in space.

“They are both information-centric and information-enabled and they share network systems, and in some cases physical infrastructures,” Formica said, adding he envisions future delivery and application of both space and cyber effects to support both joint and unified land operations.
