Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) said in a Sunday interview on CNNâs âState of the Unionâ that a compromise on averting the fiscal cliff is an uncertainty, The Hill newspaper reports.
Lieberman said he was optimistic a deal can be reached but warned the government is on an automatic pilot-like approach to the cliff of both tax increases and spending cuts under sequestration.
Sen. John Kyl (R-Ariz.) also appeared on the program and said Congress will likely form a short-term deal during the lame duck session and could form a plan for developing a more long-term approach to the country’s fiscal issues.
Meghashyam Mali writes lawmakers and the White House are set to begin negotiations on a deficit-reduction deal to avoid the cliff.
