After nearly 40 years of the FBI operating out of the J. Edgar Hoover Building in Washington, the General Services Administration is planning the FBI’s move to a new campus in the Washington region.According to the Washington Business Journal, GSA is seeking input from real estate consultants to help plan the FBI’s move from the Hoover Building and 27 headquarters divisions and offices in the region.
The Washington Post reports responses to the request for information are due March 4.
Acting GSA Administrator Dan Tangherlini told the Post the government had planned to keep agency records there, adding the Hoover site could help pay for a new campus elsewhere in the region.
The 2.1 million-square-foot headquarters would be built in either Washington, suburban Maryland or Northern Virginia, Daniel Sernovitz writes for the Business Journal.
Fairfax, Va. and Prince George’s, Md. counties are seeking the agency to move into their localities, according to Sernovitz.
