Report: France to Host Afghan Govt, Taliban Talks

Stitched PanoramaFrance Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius said in a radio interview Sunday that Afghan government officials and Taliban group representatives are meeting for the first time this week in Paris, Reuters reports.

High-ranking members of the Afghan High Peace Council and the anti-Taliban Northern Alliance are also expected in the meeting, according to the report.

Camille Grand, director of the Foundation for Strategic Research, told Reuters 20 delegates will attend the conference, scheduled for Wednesday through Friday at a secluded location north of Paris.

Fabius said the French government will not provide delegates for the talks and is merely acting as host, the report said.
