Rep. Tom Price (R-Ga.) has been appointed vice chairman of the House Budget Committee, National Journal reports.

Billy House writes committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-Wisc.) made the appointment instead of House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio).

According to The Hill newspaper, Price could succeed Ryan as chairman in two years and Ryan is widely believed, Russell Berman writes, to want the chairman post at the Ways and Means Committee in 2014.

Ryan recently secured a waiver to continue as chairman of the House Budget Committee.

Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.) recently defeated Price in a close race to lead the House Republican Conference, according to Berman.
