President Barack Obama could as soon as Thursday nominate White House Chief of Staff Jack Lew to succeed Timothy Geithner as treasury secretary, Federal Times reports.

Lew previously served as director of the Office of Management and Budget between November 2010 and January 2012, then succeeded William Daley in his current position.

Lew also led OMB during the Clinton administration between May 1998 and January 2001.

Steve Blitz, chief economist at investment firm ITG, told reporter Tim Mullaney Lew would lead the Treasury Department at a time when the dollar and U.S. standing in the world will become a leading topic with international partners.
