Defense Secretary Leon Panetta used what he said was his final press conference at the Pentagon to show his frustration over the continued budget impasse in Congress, McClatchy Newspapers reports.

U.S. allies are watching Congress to see how it faces the country’s fiscal and other challenges, he said.

Matthew Schofield reports Panetta said his greatest frustration is that he is leaving as the Defense Department is facing automatic cuts under sequestration, totaling $85 billion across the government for fiscal year 2014.

The U.S. still has a world leadership position but allies and enemies are starting to have doubts and concerns, Panetta said.

According to CNN, Panetta said his greatest concern was the impacts of budget uncertainty on national security and ability to govern.
